2015 Showtime is Here Again

Australian Sheep & Wool Show 17-19 July 2015.  The finnsheep association marquee will be bigger and better than ever this year.  In the same spot as last year (now numbered Site 317) it is way down the back on the left of the main outside laneway/aisle when entering from the front public entrance.  Walk past the Festival of Lamb marquee and the CWA Catering building and keep on going … !

Down with the other sheep marquees it is a great spot to talk sheep !  This year there will be on display — purebred finns, as well as several key crosses. A great range of finn products will be available for sale as well from fleeces (white & colors), tops – dyed and natural, yarns, felting supplies and accessories.

Finnsheep fleece awards!

Finnsheep fleece was awarded Most Valuable Commercial Fleece, British
& Other Breeds (Non-merino) at 2011 Australian Sheep & Wool Show (very

Bendigo Sheep & Wool Show

Mr Niel Blenkiron & Mr Gerry Shepherd

Mr Niel Blenkiron & Mr Gerry Shepherd

The Australian Finnsheep Association attended Bendigo Sheep & Wool Show for the 12th year recently. At our AGM Mr Peter Blenkiron was elected President for his 3rd year., with office bearers, Mr J Edwards – Vice President,  Mr N Blenkiron – Treasurer, and Mrs L. Edwards – Secretary.

Our tent at the show attracted good interest with many farmers being interested in Finn/Composite rams – Finn/White Suffolk, Finn/Texel, Finn/Merino, & various other Finn Crosses. ¼ Finn blood line will ensure fertility, good mothering and an improvement in wool quality in cross bred ewes. Pure Finns also have the advantage of short tails and clean breaches and with mulesing being phased out this is a valuable trait to inject into composite sheep.

Finn fleece was again well represented in the woolcraft section with 3 craft people gaining 2nds in their various sections. A Fairfield Finns 3/4 Finn/Polwarth fleece won the most valuable commercial fleece in Section 6 (British Breeds/Other) overall winner of 4 classes.

Craft people continued to seek out Finn fleece and goods leading to a sell out of available craft fleeces. The Association looks forward to growing interest in our unique breed.
